I really wanted to give at least 3 stars, but I couldn't. The idea was lovely, specially with the children, but the execution was poor.Perhaps, what annoyed me most was that there was too much telling. This made the story very boring and the emotion was lost. I didn't feel the any chemistry between the two main characters. Pity.

Valentine Charms A Holiday Romance Novel edition by Anne McAllister Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
How cute is that synopsis?! I thought it was fun that the kids were so invested in their teacher's love life. I also love the idea of a "loved you forever" type of second chance romance.
To be honest, I thought the kids were more involved with the matchmaking process. I'm not sure how they could pull that off (lock them in a classroom? write notes?), but I thought they'd have more of a hand in getting these two to finally realize their feelings. They really don't which is a shame because the kids were definitely a highlight for me. They were so charming and they stole ever scene they were in.
Nevertheless, the story was entertaining and kept my attention. It was a touch predictable but the characters were engaging and likable so I enjoyed watching everything unfold.
While these two shared some great chemistry, I needed a little more to convince me that they truly loved each other and not just the idea of each other. What foundations did they have to establish such an emotional connected based on a few interactions as children? We do get a few of those moments as the story progressed but I craved a little more.
Overall This is a sweet romance that will capture your heart from start to finish!

Valentine Charms by Anne McAllister
Twenty-three second graders were on a mission!
Her students were convinced Jane Kitto needed a man in her life. A ‘real man’ – not the Secret Admirer who had, every Valentine’s Day for years, sent her a tiny charm. Jane appreciated their enthusiasm, but not their choice. Football star Zack Stoner was the last man on earth she’d fall for. Handsome as sin, tough as nails, and more appealing than she wanted to admit, Zack made Jane want things she never imagined wanting–with him.
Zack Stoner had never forgotten Jane. When they were younger, he’d been confused, unnerved and fascinated by the sweet and generous Jane. It wasn’t all that different now, except he was a man, and knew he wanted her. But would Jane take a chance with someone like him?
Twenty-three cupids said yes.
this is Jane Kitto and Zack Stoner's story.
“I know you’re all thrilled to be back after Christmas vacation,” she said brightly.
Her words were met by a chorus of groans.
“And I know you’re all ready to get a good start in the new year. That’s why I’ve written three words on the board – New Year’s Resolutions. Can anyone tell me what that means? Jeremy?”
Zack Stoner had never forgotten Jane. When they were younger, he’d been confused, unnerved and fascinated by the sweet and generous Jane.

Will Jane take a chance with someone like him? read this book to find out.

Valentine Charms
Valentine Charms by Anne McAllister is a contemporary romance read that longtime fans of Anne may be slightly familiar with. The story is based on Anne’s Simple Charms but has been rewritten and now being republished adding much more detail to Jane and Zack’s story although the basics are still the same as the earlier version.
The story revolves around Jane who is a second grade teacher now at the same school she had attended herself as a child. Back when Jane was in school she was very timid and shy and distinctly remembers Zack who was older and very much the trouble maker of the school.
Now Zack is a famous football player gone into media work and has returned to run a story on his former school. Of course Jane is the one along with her class that is called upon to work with Zack which brings the two together after all these years.
While the book is now longer than the original it is still a fairly short and quick read but I think it held just the right amount of detail to the story. One might consider this one a bit of a case of opposites attracting with Jane and Zack but with their shared history they just seemed to fit together. And on top of that the addition of the second grade class of cupids made for a very heartwarming tale.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
